SUMMARY:CIE Coffee Club: Contentious Topics in the Classroom
DESCRIPTION:  Feb. 16: Teaching Antiracism and Contentious Topics in the Classroom   \nRachel Wilczewski and Melissa Sprenkle are back to continue the discussion they began last year on teaching antiracism at NMC. Join us for this important discussion at our next Coffee Club at 10 on Feb. 16 in the Library reading Room.  \nLast year\, Rachel and Melissa gave a Friday Forum presentation on their experiences with teaching antiracism and contentious topics in the classroom. They included insightful reflection and suggestions for how other faculty can introduce such conversations. CIE followed up by providing copies of two titles recommended by the pair\, White Fragility and Stuck Improving.  \nJoin us if you read the books and are ready to discuss\, or if you are just curious about the books and want to hear about the sections that we’ll each highlight.  Maybe you were inspired to introduce anti-racism teaching in your own class. Or maybe you want to learn more about the topic. We promise thoughtful conversation!
