Scholar’s Hall Room 107 known formerly as the “collaboratory” or the faculty lounge was recently renovated to become a lounge for “All.” The rather large space was underused and had become an unofficial storage unit for various class projects and college activities. In its previous state, there was little if any collaborating occuring. The participating Social Science faculty and staff were inspired by the college’s mission to increase a sense of belonging for students and employees alike. We envisioned the space to be a place in Scholar’s Hall where students, faculty, and staff could take a break, get a warm beverage, eat lunch, hold a meeting or just hang out.

Thanks to a fresh coat of paint, a long overdue refrigerator deep clean (side note- it turns out store bought cookie dough looks remarkably the same 10 years later) and an amazing Office Manager (Cindy Duby- please don’t leave us for HGTV) the space has been  beautifully transformed. The lounge has comfy modern furniture, soft lighting, tables for studying and eating and also provides access to a microwave and refrigerator as well as free coffee, tea, and snacks. The best part of all… students are using it and loving it. I had a great conversation with a few Police Academy students during my lunch the other day. If you build it, they will come.
