Welcome back to the Sherry Fest Accessibility Challenge! We hope you successfully found your way through Module 1: Introduction to Accessibility & ADA Compliance.
We had an excellent initial turnout with 27 faculty and staff signing up, but like any good corn maze, the path can be tricky: 11 participants completed the Intro Knowledge Check by the deadline. If you missed it, don’t worry! You can still catch up—just be sure to complete all modules before the end of the challenge to get that Hawk Owl Café gift card and be entered into the drawing for an NMC hoodie. Sign up and get started this week.
Now Entering: The Document Structure Maze
If navigating accessibility standards for course documents feels like a confusing labyrinth, you’re in the right place! Assistive technologies rely on clear internal signposts to help students find their way, and that’s exactly what we’re tackling next.
This week, we’re diving into Module 2: Document Structure. This module focuses on the essential best practices that give your documents a clear map for all users.
You’ll learn how to properly implement key structural elements like:
- Headings: Creating clear, hierarchical signposts for navigation.
- Spacing & Layout: Ensuring a comfortable reading experience.
- Lists and Tables: Structuring complex information correctly.
- Hyperlinks: Making sure destination links are descriptive and clear.
Your Objective
Your goal is to complete the entire Module 2 and successfully pass the Document Structure Knowledge Check quiz. As you learn, we encourage you to apply these concepts to your most frequently used documents.
To stay on track with the challenge, please complete Module 2 by Sunday, October 26th.
Use the “Questions” discussion inside the module if you run into any confusing dead-ends as you navigate the material. Happy learning!
