Attention all you hard-working, innovative faculty! When is the last time you shared your success story at the Board of Trustees meeting? Never? It’s time they heard from you! Join us at the Friday Forum on Nov. 6 for a how-to session on presenting to the board.

At each of their monthly meetings, our elected trustees reserve a slot for a faculty report. Board members want to hear what we do, whether it’s a special project, a program update, a creative assignment, or news about a successful student. Recent presentation topics include a new course, new technology, and a new assignment. Both full-time and adjunct instructors have presented.

It’s true it can be a little nerve-wracking to present to the board, even though we talk in front of our classes every day. But our Friday Forum panel will give you all the information, tips, and encouragement you need to have a good experience. Plus, it’s a short talk  — only seven minutes — so you don’t need to prepare a huge presentation.

We have a distinguished panel:

  • Kristy McDonald, business communications instructor, with pointers on organizing your talk.
  • Lynne Moritz, from the President’s Office, explaining the logistics of presenting.
  • Julieanna Frost, history instructor, who presented to the board recently.
  • Other recent faculty presenters, yet to be persuaded!

Faculty Council, which coordinates the presentations, and the Faculty Association, which negotiated for faculty reports, will be represented by Jessica Parker and Brandon Everest.

Our classes are where the magic happens!  It’s crucial that we share our stories with the trustees and the community. Please join us to learn how.

Friday Forum starts at 12:30 with lunch, followed by the program from 1-2. On Nov. 6, we will meet in Osterlin 203.
