certWhat happens when you fill a room with passionate educators from numerous disciplines as well as computers, and give them a week to complete numerous challenges together and individually?  You get a week that flies by as people learn new skills, discuss ways to help students succeed, solve a wide variety of problems, and get to know each other as fellow travelers on the journey to create new learning paths using technology.  Congratulations to this year’s graduates of teachingSOLUTIONS Boot Camp:

  • Nate Peplinski
  • Michael Anderson
  • Tricia Lincoln
  • Peggy Johnson
  • Gwen Tafelsky
  • Victoria Willson
  • Kristen Salathiel
  • Brian Sweeney
  • Linda Walter
  • Julia Sheerin
  • Vicki Fagerstrom

Highlights from the week include learning about antique tools under a modern Ladybug, what happens to certain foods when grilled, where to find Sea Lamprey in Traverse City, a walk in the park (OK, a competitive scavenger hunt using QR Codes and smart phones), TedX at the State Theater, giant selfies before resizing,  many MOOCs of interest, and new ways to describe wayfaring through Moodle courses to prevent Lord Chaotic Life, Ms. Overachiever, and Justin Here Because from succumbing to a variety of common obstacles.

Hmmm, you think, what does that have to do with teaching and Moodle?  Just ask one of the week’s graduates.  Or, it’s not too late to join others currently working in the teachingSOLUTIONS fully online version–the deadline is August 1 for Capstone projects!  Email Mark DeLonge (mdelonge@nmc.edu) or Tracy Russo (trusso@nmc.edu) to find out more.

A special thank you to the Center for Instructional Excellence for all of their support with resources, coordination assistance, breakfast treats, and a celebration lunch.  Thank you as well to the Educational Media Department for all of the behind the scenes work to make this happen–especially Jan Oliver, Michelle Autry, Meredith Arman, and Alan Beer for all the last minute details that always crop up.  Thank you also, to the Communications department for allowing us to take over the Small Alice Lab for the week–what a great space for learning!
