Hello everyone!Welcome back to a new semester. Just some quick reminders about the Writing and Reading Center’s services and hours:
- We offer reading assistance, in addition to writing assistance. Students who have a hard time reading articles or textbooks can visit us for tips, practice, and guidance.
- Victoria Willson, the WRC Reading Specialist, is available to talk with instructors about techniques for increasing reading comprehension in students. Email us for assistance.
- We help with any writing, at any point, for any reason. If students are struggling to come up with topic ideas or understand the assignment requirements, we can help them even if they haven’t started writing yet.
- Students are often resistant to first attending the WRC, but return regularly after a first visit. To help students become more familiar and comfortable, we’d be happy to give a tour of the space or come speak with your class. Let us know if this is something you would like.
- Bookmarks are available for you to hand out, which contain our contact information, hours, and some tips. Email your request for bookmarks and we’ll send some over.
- We open officially on Monday, January 19th, but I will be available all throughout the first week of school if students have questions sooner.
- Our Spring 2015 hours are as follows:
- Monday: 9:00-5:00
- Tuesday: 9:00-6:00
- Wednesday: 9:00-6:00
- Thursday: 9:00-5:00
- Friday: 9:00-3:00
- The WRC is a great resource for instructors, too. Either I or a Reader can look at early drafts of assignments to let you know where any areas could be confusing or unclear for students, before you even hand it out.
Thank you for your continued support and referrals. If there is any way we can further help you or your students, please let me know.
Thank you!
