Welcome back, friends! We are looking forward to seeing you all at the August Conference and PD Workshop. Our afternoon program, Building Belonging at NMC, is a joint effort of CIE and the DEIB Advisory Team. Many thanks to our faculty and staff presenters who will be running mini-workshops. The afternoon agenda includes links to resources provided by our presenters to keep the conversation going on this important topic. .

CIE is busy planning a full year of engaging professional development events, way more than we can share in one newsletter. Here are a few important and fun opportunities to share right now.

Meet Your Students at Meet Your Professor Ice Cream Social

We all scream (with delight!) for the new Meet Your Professor Ice Cream Social from 1-3pm on Friday, Aug. 25. Your role at this Student Life Welcome Week event is to be a friendly face who can answer students questions about getting started in college. No scooping required, but you should eat ice cream to get into the spirit of things. Sign up for this and other Welcome Week events.

Reserve a Spot in Online Teaching Conference

CIE is reserving five spots in the fall Teaching Professor Online Conference. Livestream sessions run from October 24–26 with access to recordings through the end of the year. Registering through CIE allows us to take advantage of a group discount. This is a good option for provisional faculty who need a conference focused on teaching. Speak to your chair and contact Janet Lively if you are interested!

Get Onboard with the CIE Advisory!

CIE is looking for new advisory board members, preferably from social science and business/culinary so we represent all academic areas. CIE is a hard-working, friendly board with meetings every two weeks and participation expected in CIE events. Terms are four years, with a limit of two consecutive terms. Speak to your chair and contact Janet Lively if you are interested!

Find the Answers in the New CIE Handbook

The new CIE Handbook is coming soon to the Center for Teaching and Learning website. The handbook outlines procedures and guidelines for events, funding, and programming sponsored by CIE. Highlights include links to a new form for conference travel requests, an explanation of adjunct stipends now set at $25 an hour, and guidelines for the CIE advisory board. Huge thanks to Alice Sluss and Ali Thorton for working on the new travel request form, which will allow us to better track our travel budget.
