Sherry Fest Winter Games Accessibility Challenge. Sherry as an Olympic hockey player.Welcome back to the Sherry Fest Winter Games Accessibility Challenge! You’ve handled the puck beautifully through document structure and kept control through readable text—now it’s time to take the ice for the main event and ensure every student has a clear line of sight to the goal!

If you’re currently trailing by a goal or two, don’t head to the locker room yet. The game is far from over. You can still catch up and complete all modules before the end of the semester to earn that Hawk Owl Café gift card and a shot at the NMC hoodie drawing. Don’t stay on the bench—lace up and join the roster!

Converting the Power Play (Module 4)

Imagine you’re the captain of the Olympic squad. You’ve just executed a perfect tic-tac-toe passing play for a goal, but if half the fans in the arena can’t see the puck, hear the announcer, or understand the referee’s signals, they’ve missed the best part of the game. This week is all about making sure your media content is a high-speed, accessible experience for every fan in the stands.

We’re hitting the ice for Module 4: Audio & Visual Materials. This module focuses on the best practices for media, ensuring you aren’t just putting points on the board, but practicing inclusive communication.

You’ll be mastering the skills needed for a championship performance:

  • Images: Ensuring all visuals have high-quality Alternative Text so screen readers can provide the “play-by-play” for the on-ice action.
  • Slideshows: Structuring your presentations so they are easy to navigate for both visual audiences and those using “keyboard-only” puck handling.
  • Video & Audio: Understanding the critical need for accurate captions and transcripts so every student can hear the coach’s whistle.
  • Audio Descriptions: Providing descriptive narration for key visual information in video, ensuring the entire “broadcast” is accessible to everyone.

Your Scouting Report (Objective)

Your goal is to complete the entire Module 4 and successfully pass the Audio/Visual Knowledge Check quiz. We encourage you to review a favorite lecture video or image-heavy document and apply these gold-medal accessibility principles.

Final Buzzer: To stay on track with the challenge, please complete Module 4 by Sunday, March 15th.

If you hit the boards or need help with a tricky play, use the “Questions” discussion at the top of the course.

Let’s keep the Sherry Fest Winter Games Accessibility Challenge momentum skating forward—it’s time to put your course media at the top of the standings!
