With the formal announcement of the Experiential Learning Institute, teams are underway to create the capacities and supports necessary to help you explore using experiential learning in your classrooms and offices. This summer will be an important time for development. Although construction is underway, don’t hesitate to reach out for help! Here are some things we will be working on this summer.
Curriculum development and mentoring
One of the first things that folks have asked us is where to begin. Let us help you take the first steps changing as little as a single assignment in a classroom or a single experience in your office all the way to considering a larger scale project. If you have already begun using experiential learning in your classroom or office, feel free to rely on us for further support.
Faculty and staff support
Kristy and I will be working through the summer to support faculty and staff who are interested in transitioning to using more experiential learning techniques in their classrooms and offices. Feel free to reach out to either of us to set up a time to meet with you to discuss above options.
EL 101 trainings developed
One of the things that we look forward to the most is developing a training sequence that will help people learn about the basics of experiential learning theory and experiential education. After a number of us graduated from NSEE’s Experiential Education Academy, we are prepared to develop an NMC-based training to help jump-start experiential learning across all our campuses. Although we are prepared to support you this summer, look for a full training to be developed. We will launch that this fall.
Grant and resource development
We know that it takes time, energy and resources to support the transition to experiential learning. This summer, we will work with a number of faculty, staff and administrators to develop a process to accept, review and support grants for various kinds of resources to support your efforts. Resource applications might include mentoring and coaching, professional development, support for learner involvement in various activities and beyond. Processes involved in receiving grants are underway, but don’t hesitate to reach out to us for support. We don’t want you to slow down! Reach out to us for the support you need!
