nursingStudents require many different methods for the delivery of educational content from my advanced medical-surgical and pharmacology classes. Over the past few years, many have requested that I record my lectures so they can go back over the content (foreign language to new pharmacology students) afterwards. The online students like to hear the presentation instead of just reading dry tutorials. So, I experimented with recording lectures at home using PowerPoint but found that they are too long in most cases, for uploading in Moodle. Recording in class was my next option and Camtasia Relay provided a great way to upload a live lecture to Moodle for face-to-face, hybrid, and online students. The problem with live lectures is the medical confidentiality aspect, which can be an issue. I did have to delete one such lecture because a legal situation was mentioned and a student mentioned the name of the downstate physician involved. Ugh! Who knew that it would have affected her mother! I then recorded the lecture again in the privacy of my office and uploaded to Ensemble. There is a link in my Moodle courses to Ensemble.

I now record with Camtasia Relay,  it is a great tool because I can upload my lectures into Ensemble. In Ensemble I have developed a playlist where I add my lectures. I have put some of my pharmacology lectures into the med-surg classes as well as the pharmacology playlist. Students like to review certain classifications of medications and that makes it easy for them to get a thorough review. Camtasia Relay is a great program to record lectures anywhere and it does make uploading them quick and accessible to students. I am able to “flip my classroom” or give a lecture to students on a snow day!

The staff at Educational Media Technologies were instrumental in providing me with the knowledge and support to utilize a great tool that helps keep students at the center of learning.
