Sherry Fest Winter Games Accessibility Challenge. Theme is Olympic CurlingHey everyone, grab your brooms! The Sherry Fest Winter Games Accessibility Challenge is sliding right along. Even if you’re more of a “stay inside where it’s warm” person, the spirit of the game is going strong. We’re deep into the mid-game ends of accessibility, and every module you finish is a stone landed right on the button for our students.

Hurry Hard! Huge shoutout to everyone who nailed the Module 2 Knowledge Check! If you’re a little behind on your delivery, don’t sweat it. Accessibility isn’t a “sudden death” shootout; it’s a long game. You’ve still got plenty of ends left to catch up, finish the modules, and snag that Hawk Owl Café gift card and a spot in the NMC hoodie drawing. If you haven’t joined the club yet, there’s still room on the ice!

The Hammer: Module 3 – Creating Readable Text

In the world of course design, a document can either be a perfect draw or a heavy guard that blocks a student’s path. This week, we’re focusing on “sweeping” away barriers to make your text easy to see and read. We want your documents to have the perfect line of delivery—no “wicked curls” or unexpected obstacles!

Module 3: Creating Readable Text covers:

  • Typography: Choosing fonts, sizes, and spacing that enhance readability for all users.
  • Using Colors: Understanding color contrast requirements and how to use color effectively without relying on it as the sole means of conveying information.
  • Creating Accessible PDF Files: Learning best practices to ensure those common PDF handouts are readable by assistive technology.

Your Objective

Your goal is to complete the entire Module 3 and successfully pass the Creating Readable Text Knowledge Check quiz. We encourage you to start applying these best practices to your current assignments and documents—practice makes perfect!

To stay on track with the challenge, please complete Module 3 by Sunday, March 1st.

If you hit a “guard” or need help with your delivery, use the “Questions” discussion at the top of the course.
