NMC’s new Neurodiversity Support Center launched by communications instructor Nancy Gray has gotten lots of well-deserved attention lately. The Neurodiversity Support Center, located in Scholars Hall Room 13, is both a place for students to receive targeted supports for college success and a place to decompress and self-regulate.

Neurodiversity Support Center

The Neurodiversity Support Center serves students with learning differences that include, but are not limited to, anxiety, autism, ADHD and OCD. Students enrolled in the program must have a Michigan Rehabilitation Services(MRS) case open to receive targeted support by trained staff through the center: peer mentoring, study tables, success coaching, seminars on gaining skills for college, life and work success as well as social activities. Nancy will help students apply to MRS if they want to open a case. Anyone is welcome to  drop in to SH13 to socialize, study in the quiet space, or relax in the sensory area. The center is open Monday through Thursday 9:00AM to 5:00PM.

A longer-term goal of the Neurodiversity Support Center is to help faculty understand how to better serve neurodiverse students. Nancy has been meeting with faculty and student support staff and shares this slide deck with best practices.  In addition, she has prepared this syllabus blurb to direct students to the center.

Big thanks to Nancy for helping faculty and staff make NMC a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus where all students feel like they belong!
