Canvas Corner Volume 16 (Season 2): Canvas Clean-Up Part 2: Files
Last week’s Canvas Corner talked about cleaning up your Canvas courses as it relates to Pages. This week, we’re turning our attention to Files.
The Files link contains essentially anything an instructor has uploaded to a course. If your course began as a Moodle import, your Files area likely contains far more content than you realize. Along with course documents and images, Moodle imports also brought over certain types of student submissions (primarily Glossary items) and saved them as files. Those student submissions, in particular, should be reviewed and removed. If the Files link is enabled in Course Navigation, students can see and access all of your files, including leftover student work from past Moodle courses.
Important: Deleting something from a Module does not delete the file itself. The file remains in Files unless you remove it there.
Take a few minutes to scan your Files page, delete unnecessary items (especially old student work), and organize what remains.
