Join us at Friday Forum on Mar. 6 for an important discussion of the environmental and social ethics of artificial intelligence. Rachel Wilczewski and Pat Kawula will reprise their popular session from October Conference. If you missed Rachel and Pat in October, don’t miss them in March! We meet in TJNIC 106/07 at 12:30 for lunch followed by the program.

Environmental and Social Ethics of Generative AI

From Rachel and Pat:

The development of AI is ushering in a technological and social revolution that has and will continue to change society in a drastic way. Like the technologies of previous revolutions, AI has its own share of environmental and ethical considerations. This session will highlight some of the environmental and social ethical issues imbued in generative AI, including energy and water consumption and the creation of electronic waste. In addition, we will outline some of the labor and bias issues entailed both within the production and use of AI systems. The purpose of this session is to share resources on these topics and to create a space for discussion and questions.
