This fall the Social Sciences department had the extreme fortune to have two brand new full-time faculty join our team. Rachel Johansen-Wilczewski is our new Sociology instructor. If you struggle pronouncing her name, Rachel recommends this cool trick: Will (as in your will to do something), Chess (as in the game) and Ski (as in the activity).
After accepting a full time faculty position here at NMC, Rachel and her husband moved here from Greenville, MI. Rachel holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with minors in Women’s Studies and Spanish. Her PhD is also in Sociology with minors in Gender Justice and Environmental Change.
Rachel brings a great deal of energy to our department and already students are hanging out in her office. She is also the faculty advisor for the student group SUGR.
Our other new full time faculty person is Joe Verschave, who holds an M.A. in Clinical and Human Psychology. Joe left Grand Valley State to come to NMC as our full time Psychology instructor. Besides keeping us laughing, he brings a wealth of experience not only in the field of Psychology but also with his work in Ghana.
Joe has spent his summers in Ghana working with agencies that work against human trafficking and creating a non-governmental organization, ISHEW (International Sustainability Health Education and Water). ISHEW is committed to locally sourced and staffed humanitarian projects relying solely upon the hearts and minds of volunteers.
Joe is also recognized for his Youtube video that has gone viral, yes VIRAL, of his dog and cat hanging out.
