copyrightAs we learn more about copyright and our responsibility at NMC to be in compliance, Educational Media Technologies has been working to develop a process for how copyright videos are used in courses. Because use of online materials falls under the TEACH Act, please see the following guidelines:

TEACH Act: Favored Uses

  • Performances of nondramatic literary works.
  • Performances of nondramatic music works.
  • Performances of any other work, including dramatic works and audiovisual works, BUT ONLY in “reasonable and limited portions.”
  • Displays of any work “in an amount comparable to that which is typically displayed in the course of a live classroom session.”

If you use copyright videos in your course(s), we would like to work with you to utilize Ensemble’s new Trim feature to “trim/clip” the amount of each video being used (as opposed to entire videos). CCopyright logoreating the clips is easy, and it allows us to be copyright compliant.

Once clips are made of the videos you are using, they will be available to you in your Ensemble library. In addition, by trimming videos down to what is essential to your lesson, you can make the trimmed portion available longer than the current 7 days.

Any videos that are shown in full-length for academic purposes need to be copyright compliant. If you have not already completed the new form, please do so by the end of spring  semester or your videos will not be available to play.
