The library has been working with professor emerita and longtime VP of Lifelong and Professional Learning, Marguerite Cotto, to shape and launch an Interdisciplinary Solutions Research Prize, an exciting, one-of-a-kind co-curricular opportunity for students. Gathering your input to hone this idea will be the focus of CIE’s first Coffee Club meeting of the semester, which will take place on Friday, September 16 from 10am-11am in the NMC Library Reading Room.
Rooted in problem-based and experiential learning, the project will guide interdisciplinary student teams through an exploratory research process to gain a deeper understanding of a contemporary problem. With the support of NMC and community mentors, student teams will develop and present proposed solutions to a panel of judges.
The team with the most compelling solution will earn no-strings-attached scholarship funds that they may use in any way toward furthering their educational goals (tuition at NMC or a transfer institution, equipment or materials, workshops or other learning opportunities, etc.)
With the elements of the project just beginning to coalesce, now is an ideal time to engage the NMC faculty brain trust for some key feedback and recommendations! We need your ideas and perspectives to make this the richest and most transformative learning experience it can be for students.
Join us as we kick off this year’s CIE Coffee Club series with a freewheeling, caffeinated hour of fine-tuning ideas for the pilot run of the Interdisciplinary Solutions Research Prize, slated to take place during the Spring 2023 semester!
