career fair imageHello NMC Faculty and Staff!  Irina Grougan and I are working with many people as we put the details together for this year’s event. I am asking for your assistance in getting the word out to our students and alumni. As the people they engage with regularly, in and out of the classroom, you have fantastic in-person access to share this information.  They are more likely to listen to you than to read our emails or posters! Your support would be greatly appreciated.

As I have heard through my connections with our College Central job board, many employers are looking to fill positions. In the past at the fair, we have had a mix of seasonal jobs, companies looking for interns, and businesses interested in career-track employees. Last year, Social Security Administration, NMC, Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan State Police and various IT companies, to name a few, were there as employers looking to fill career-track positions. Various companies hiring summer workers, including local wineries, hotels, and Pirate’s Cove, come regularly which serves a need for students seeking seasonal employment.

It is early in the semester so students have plenty of time to brush up their resumes and cover letters, practice their interview pitches and do general prep for the event. I am here to help with that.  I am available by appointment at dlaursen@nmc.edu or 995-3024. I also have Walk-in Wednesdays from 1-2:30 pm in the Student Success Center, in my office, room O-129. If you think it would be helpful, I would be happy to pop into your classroom for 5 minutes, introduce myself and let your students know that there is a Career Success Coach available to help them now, and as alumni. I am also available to do a full presentation if that fits with your schedule/course content.

The details for the fair are the following: Thursday, March 3, from 4-5:30 pm at the Hagerty Center on the Great Lakes Campus. There are no fees or registration for students, alumni, and community members attending. Proper business interview attire is encouraged. Information will be updated regularly at www.nmc.edu/careerfair.
