I got stuck in the middle of the road. My truck refused to move forward on the icy surface. It was frustrating in that I was pressing the accelerator, and the motor was not revving.
To provide some information for reference. I bought a new truck. Not many people noticed, since the truck has the same brand, size, color, cab, and length of box as my old truck. It sat in my driveway for over a month before my wife noticed I had either washed my old truck, or finally purchased a new one. Since the truck was the same as the old one, I never read the manual or went through the orientation offered by the dealer. I did not even test drive it. That was a mistake. Always read the instructions. The new truck, in addition to an automatic tailgate, has something called “Traction Control.” When a tire slips, it stops receiving power. I found out that if all tires are slipping, the motor will not go faster than the tires can get traction. Since there was no traction, there was no speed. So, there I was, on 3-Mile Road, trying to get up that small hill to the light at Hammond, and not moving. After pulling over, and getting the manual out of its original plastic sleeve in the glove box, I found the button that disables the Traction Control.
Lesson Learned: Even if the task at hand seems simple, and it has been done too many times before to count, when new equipment is being used, read the instructions.
