Great news! The Student Success Center is continuing the Early Alert Referral Pilot that we began over the Summer.

Many stalertudents can benefit from early intervention with student services. Classroom instructors and student services staff are on the front lines of student success and can often identify struggling students at the first sign of trouble. Now there is a simple tool that allows you to alert student services when one of your student’s could use assistance. Use the early alert referral for any student who you believe would benefit from advising, tutoring, academic coaching, or the writing and reading center.

Early Alert Referral Process

  • The form is NMC ID protected, and NMC IDs are automatically recorded when the form is filled out.

  • Instructors and staff can use the online form to refer students who display behaviors that can inhibit their academic success. E.g. missing assignments, poor attendance, lack of focus in class, reluctance/refusal to participate, observed or reported difficulties with basic skills (reading, numeracy).

  • Once the form is received, the Student Success Center staff pushes the referral out to the appropriate department.

  • The Student Success Center, Tutoring, Writing and Reading Center, or Advising contacts the student via phone, then e-mail to request an appointment with the student.

If the student responds: the student and the student service department meet, develop a plan for improvement, and follow up with the instructor.

If the student does not respond: the student service department follows up with the instructor.
