If you’re an instructor here at NMC, you are probably pretty familiar with CIE, the Center for Instructional Excellence. You know that we organize the October Professional Development Day, host the Friday Forums and the 20 Minute Mentor Coffee Clubs, and work with EMT to offer Moodle and other technology-based workshops. What you may not know, however, is that CIE is part of a larger professional development organization at the college–the Professional Development Institute.
The Professional Development Institute (PDI) was conceived two years ago as part of the Talent action project as a way of bringing the professional development being done on campus under one umbrella. While CIE exists primarily to focus on professional development around teaching and learning, the rest of what PDI offers is open to all employees and focuses on NMC’s core competencies. Classes and online resources are offered in categories such as quality service/continuous improvement, teamwork/collaboration, technology skills, training to meet compliance requirements, as well as a host of leadership development opportunities for everyone.
Both CIE and PDI exist to promote continued learning for all of us in the NMC community. Watch for opportunities to join your colleagues to connect and grow professionally through both of these organizations.
