closed captionsHave you ever wondered why you should make sure your captions are accurate?  Do you have videos in your courses that were made by someone else? Did you ever look at the captions that were added to those videos or did you just think because it had captions you were all set?  If you are using your own videos in your courses make sure to use captions. If you are using videos created by others you may want to verify that the captions are accurate. Verifying the accuracy of the captions is just as important if not more than having captions. This video was shared at an ITC workshop I attended on Captioning and Accessibility. This is a humorus look at bad captions,  but it sure paints the picture of why this is important. The authors of this video used the YouTube captioning tools to create captions.  If they had just used what the source transcribed, it would have painted a much different picture to those reading the captions. If you are using videos in your courses, verify the captions you are using are accurate. This is very important to allow All Students the same opportunity or experience.
