nmcwritting centerHappy New Year everyone! The Writing and Reading Center is ready for a busy and exciting semester. Below is some information about the resources we have to support students.

Spring Hours and Contact Information:

The WRC opens with a full staff January 18th, though I’m available to help any students before that time. The hours for Spring 2016 are:

  • Monday 9:00-5:00.
  • Tuesday 9:00-6:00.
  • Wednesday 9:00-6:00.
  • Thursday 9:00-5:00.
  • Friday 9:003:00.

Appointments are required for guaranteed help, although if we have open time, we’re also happy to assist walk-in students. As the semester gets busier, please advise students to plan ahead and make an appointment.

Students can contact us by stopping by (SH 221), calling (995-1189), emailing (writingcenter@nmc.edu), or messaging us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/NMCWritingCenter).

Phone Conferences: For online students, or students that are not able to make it to campus for a face-to-face session, we offer phone conferences. Interested students should fill out the “Phone Appointment Form” located on our website (https://www.nmc.edu/student-services/writing-center/submission-form.html).

Instructor Assignment Submission: We ask that as you send students to the WRC, you also share your assignments with us. It is much easier for us to assist students if we fully understand the purpose and goals of the assignments. Submit your assignment using the “Instructor Assignment Form” located on our website (https://www.nmc.edu/student-services/writing-center/assignment-submission-form.html). The form includes areas where you can tell the WRC what specific aspects of the assignment you would like us to focus on or any other details we need to know. In addition, please also attach any supporting materials for the assignment, such as rubrics or outlines.

Tours, Presentations, and Bookmarks: Students are often reticent to attend the WRC, though they return often once they have. To help students feel comfortable visiting initially, we offer tours of our space, class presentations, or bookmarks with our contact information and hours. Please let me know if we can provide any of those items for you.

If there is any other way that we can assist your students as they move through this semester, feel free to contact us at any time. Good luck in the new semester!
