Blackford“Well, Mark, I want the students to show up for my class,” stated Lisa.

At the start of the new semester, Lisa Blackford decided she wanted to implement an attendance policy in one of her Social Work courses.  The idea was to give students 20 points for attendance for the semester and then if a student misses a class, the student loses 10 of those points.

How We Used Moodle:

We created a quiz in Moodle that consisted of one true and false question.  The question stated Lisa’s attendance policy and then asked the students to agree to the policy by answeringTrue.  Answering true to the question automatically gives each student 20 points on their attendance quiz and it is recorded in the Moodle gradebook automatically.  After each student has their 20 points for attendance from the quiz, Lisa plans to monitor her class attendance.  If a student is absent, she plans to enter the gradebook and change that student’s attendance quiz grade to 10 points.

  • Students agree to class attendance policy
  • Points are given to student for attendance in the gradebook
  • Everything tracked by Moodle and in Moodle
  • Easy to create and set up
  • Students are able to review their credit for attendance
