It’s been windy and cold, yet NMC’s summer semester is right around the corner! Keep the following Moodle-and-Canvas related dates in mind as we approach the start of NMC’s next term:
- Monday, May 5th — Students populated into 12-week summer 2025 (2503) courses in both Canvas and Moodle. You’ll be able to see students in your participant lists on this date, provided your course starts on May 10th. Remember that students are populated into courses 5 days before the course’s official start date, so if your course starts later you’ll see your student list later, most likely on June 8.
- Wednesday, May 7th @ 11 am — Spring 2025 (2502) grades are due.
- Thursday, May 8th — Summer 2025 (2503) courses turned on. We turn on courses (and hide META child courses for Moodle and cross-listed courses for Canvas) one day before the semester begins so students are able to confirm their course enrollments. Make sure your course shells have at least a welcome message by this date. If some of your content is not ready, you can always hide sections from students (Moodle) or un-publish modules (Canvas). Please note that Canvas courses will become available to students at midnight and Moodle courses between 1-2 pm.
- Saturday, May 10th — Summer 2025 (2503) semester begins.
- Monday through Friday (9 am – 3 pm), May 12-16 — Canvas Camp! This optional work-week will consist of a series of training sessions designed to help instructors transition from Moodle to Canvas. Each day will kick off with a “Canvas Concept” lesson, followed by hands-on course creation support. Your counselors’ goal is to teach you the basics using our new learning platform, assist with Moodle-to-Canvas imports, and provide the immediate, expert assistance you’ve come to expect from us. - Wednesday, May 21st — Spring 2021 (2502) courses turned off. We turn courses off two weeks after grades have been submitted. If you need a course left open, please submit a ticket and let us know the course and the student(s) who need to maintain access to your materials.
- Friday, May 23rd — Fall 2024 (2401) courses removed from Moodle. We continually remove older Moodle courses to keep the Moodle server running optimally. You can backup/download a Moodle course on your own or reach out to us for help. Please note that on September 19, 2025, Moodle will no longer be available to instructors or students, even to check past courses.
- Thursday, June 12th — Most late-start summer courses begin. Students will appear in these courses on Saturday, June 7th.
If you’ve been assigned to teach a course in the Summer or Fall of 2025, but the course doesn’t appear in your Moodle dashboard, check with your department manager to make sure you’ve been assigned to the course in the registration software.
If you have any questions about these upcoming dates, feel free to give us a call or submit a ticket.
