Here’s a friendly reminder that NMC wants you to rent a car if you are driving to a conference. If not, you could be in for an unhappy surprise when you fill out the travel reimbursement form.

NMC gets a discount on car rentals, so it is a better deal for the college to pay for a rental car than to pay the federal mileage rate. Therefore, it is college policy to reimburse you for what it would cost to rent a car, even if you drive your own vehicle.

The only exceptions are if no rental cars are available or if the rental cost exceeds the federal reimbursement rate. Rental cars are usually available if you plan ahead.
