From February 26 to March 3, some new “students” will be sitting in NMC classrooms. These students will actually be faculty participating in Open Classroom Week. This is a CIE-sponsored initiative to promote contemplation and conversation about teaching and learning around campus. Faculty will volunteer to open their classrooms at specific times during this week; others can sign up to come visit. This is a no-strings attached initiative–no meetings before, no forms to complete, no evaluation or feedback given. It’s just a time to come see what our colleagues are doing and then think about our own practice.

There are two ways to participate:

  1. Open your classroom: There are no special expectations or preparations required–just a willingness to share your teaching with colleagues.  If you would like to volunteer to open your classroom, please email Kristen Salathiel by Friday, Feb. 9.
  2. Visit a classroom: There are no special expectations or preparations required here either. Just sign up for a specific class that piques your interest and then come observe and enjoy. Sign-ups will begin on Feb. 15 on a first-come, first-serve basis. (Adjunct faculty stipend available.)
