Nursing faculty member Kim Anderson recently attended the 2024 American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference in Orlando, Florida. Here’s what she had to say about the event:
When and where did the event take place?
September 2024, Orlando Florida
Please share details from a memorable keynote speaker, conference session, or something else notable from the event.
During one of the plenary sessions there was a single mother who was talking to all the conference participants (12K people who were mainly pediatricians) about how a pediatrician changed her whole outlook and gave her the confidence to continue her education. He touched her by mentioning he was raised by a single mom and he understood how hard that is. It was so touching and everyone there was so proud of where she had taken her life as a national speaker!
How likely are you to recommend this opportunity to a colleague?
Very likely.
Do you have any big takeaways that you’ll be applying to your pedagogy in the near future?
There were over 400 sessions to choose from on every pediatric topic imaginable. I got a lot of new information which I will share with my students during class.
Is there anything else you’d like CIE or your colleagues at NMC to know about this experience?
I feel in person conferences are important to get to experience! It’s a great opportunity to meet others in your field for networking too.
