Wow! We have a slew of new faculty this year, and they are amazing!
The Center for Instructional Excellence met many of our new folks at our New Faculty Institute Orientation earlier this month. We have seven new full-time faculty members this year, with another seven beginning their second and third years. We have at least 30 new adjunct faculty in all disciplines since last January.
It was a pleasure to meet our new colleagues and, in an icebreaker you might not want to do with students, learn about their spirit animals. We’ve got a sloth, a whale, a wolf, and more in our ranks!
Several returning faculty joined us for the debut of Teaching Essentials, a pedagogy course taught by Ryan Bernstein and Mark DeLonge. The duo ran the session again during August advising training to positive reviews both times. Look for more Teaching Essentials in your future.
All faculty in their first through third years at NMC are welcome at the monthly New Faculty Institute meetings. Adjunct instructors receive a stipend for attending. First- and second-year full-time faculty are required to attend. Our next meeting is Sep. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Innovation Center Room 123 (computer lab). Coffee and treats? Of course!
